Hello, I've been trying to upload books through FTP and they seem to be stuck on "processing" for days now. Is there something I can do to fix this?
You're using web-ftp. That's the one that goes 'processing'. Ie the one via the website itself.
That has a max capacity of 100mb per file. If you try to go over that, it'll just sit there saying 'processing' forever.
To get around that, download a ftp client: FileZilla, WinSCP, Cyberduck, etc
Then go back to web-FTP. If you look at the top, you'll see it says 'add book' --- 'FTP Collections' --- 'My Uploads'
You are currently on 'add book'. Go to 'FTP Collections', and click the green button marked 'Create FTP Collection'. Give it a name and select books or articles - you can't mix them in the same collection. Once you ok that, it will appear on the screen. Navigate over to where it says 'Credentials' and click on that. You'll get a box with the details you enter into your ftp client.
Put those details in in the client and it'll connect. You can drag your books over en-masse into that. I typically go for 8-10 per collection. It will take thousands, but takes exponentially longer to process the more you put in it.
When they're all in, go back to 'FTP Collections' on the website, and this time click the blue button marked 'start processing' As a rule of thumb, 10 books takes 20 minutes to process. It may be longer if the site is particularly busy.
Once done that will change to 'publish books'. Do not click that. Instead, click the name of your collection. You'll go into it, and see all the books listed there. You can click each filename to add details to that particular book, then publish them one at a time or all at once in there when done.
That set of Сredentials is now spent. You'll have to create another collection to upload more books this way.
Once all books in the collection have been published, its safe to delete the collection.
Be aware FTP still has a limit, which is 1gb per book. Try to post a book larger than that and it won't work. You will have to edit the file to reduce its size, but that's beyond the scope of uploading them.
